Sooo, Micheal B Jordan’s an anime fan, eh. That’s nice…
If you’re familiar with the actor, you sure know about the next installment of the famous Creed films that he’s been out promoting. And believe it or not, a lot of the fights in the film are inspired by Anime. And if you’re wondering why I’m giving you this information, well, here’s why:
In a recent interview promoting Creed 3, famous actor Micheal B Jordan expressed his love for the anime medium and how it has shaped his childhood. And during this interview, he also gave his 5 Top Anime For Newbies, which seems to be the issue here. Now don’t get me wrong, his recommendations, which include One-piece, Dragon Ball, Naruto, Bleach, Hunter x Hunter Anime, are undoubtedly popular and excellent shows; it’s essential to note that new fans may find a diversified recommendation more beneficial.
The issue with this list is that these anime are quite old, with a little outdated art style and a lot of fillers. And if you recommend these to a newbie, he/she might find it difficult to keep up with it all.
In my opinion, there are certain criteria that if anime fulfills, then it’s eligible to be recommended to a newcomer. These include some dope animation, to-the-point and excellent storytelling, no fillers, and an up to date art-style (heh, look at me being so technical with Anime recommendations).
In light of all that, allow yours truly to present a list of his Top 5 Anime For Newbies. Additionally, each anime here showcases a different type of storytelling and animation style, allowing viewers to explore the great vastness anime has to offer. Here we go:
#5 Demon Slayer
Demon Slayer is a great anime to start with, as it has a stunning art style, a simple yet beautiful story, and fantastic animation. The visuals are a feast for the eyes, and the fight scenes are masterfully choreographed. The art style is distinct and memorable, making it stand out from other anime. There is a great balance of action, humor, and emotion, making it an enjoyable watch for viewers of all ages. As a shonen, it is a great choice for those looking to explore the genre without investing too much time in watching hundreds of episodes.
#4 Moshoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation
With the flooding of dozens of Isekai each season, it’s become difficult to find a well balanced show in this genre. Yet, once in a blue moon, arrives a show like Moshoku Tensei. Let me tell you, it was perfect…
Moshoku Tensei follows the journey of a Shut-In NEET who is reincarnated into a fantasy world and vows to live a better life this time around. With its well-developed plot and stunning animation, Moshoku Tensei is one excellent choice for fans of the Isekai genre, specifically ones who are looking for a fresh take on the traditional formula. Moreover, the show’s blend of comedy, action, and drama provides an exciting and engaging viewing experience, making it a great pick for any newcomer.
#3 Death Note
Death Note is a must-watch anime for any newcomer who loves mystery and psychological thrillers. The show’s premise is not only captivating but also complex, providing a unique and jaw dropping experience for those who want to delve into a more intricate plot. The protagonist, Light Yagami, is a high school student who stumbles upon a mysterious notebook that has the power to kill anyone whose name be written within it. As Light becomes increasingly consumed by the power of the notebook and a game of cat-and-mouse begins with a mysterious detective known only as “L”, the audience is enthralled into a ride full of twists and turns. The animation, soundtrack and art style are top-notch, bringing the characters and their actions to life in a visually stunning way.
#2 Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is highly regarded for its expertly designed and meticulously executed plot, as well as its intellectually stimulating themes of power, corruption, sacrifice, and redemption. Its unique blend of action, drama, and philosophy offers a thought-provoking and masterfully crafted viewing experience. With dynamic animation, well-developed characters, and a deeply engrossing story, it’s no surprise that it is widely considered as one of the greatest anime of all time. As a shonen series, it strikes an ideal balance between fun and complexity, making it a great entry point for newcomers to the genre. Its popularity has endured over the years, and for good reason: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is a true masterpiece of an anime that
deserves to be experienced by any fan of the medium.
#1 Chainsaw Man
Call me biased, but Chainsaw Man will live ever rent-free in my heart. This relatively new addition has a fast-paced storyline that hooks viewers from the very moment Denji steps into action. The animation quality is eye-catching, with a mixture of 2D and 3D, and the use of vibrant colors adds to the overall appeal of the show. The characters in Chainsaw Man are memorable, and the anime takes a bold approach to character development. The anime explores several themes, such as life and death, friendship, and personal growth, all while keeping the audience entertained with its unique brand of humour and action. While Chainsaw Man may not be for everyone due to its gore and dark themes, it is an excellent choice for anyone looking for something outside the norm in the shonen genre. I, for one, find myself rooting for Denji. We both have the same goal….. Heh!
