Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse took inspiration from Boruto, the sequel to Naruto. At least, that’s the rumor—a commercial success, grossing over $200 million worldwide. Critics praised the film’s animation, voice acting, music, and story. Now the latter had fans of the anime Bouruto thinking that part of the success might have something to do with both using similar plot points. Boruto fans have pointed out some interesting similarities between the new Spider-Man movie and the anime Boruto. For example, in both stories, there is a scene where two young heroes have a quiet chat on a cliffside. In Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, this scene is between Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy, while in Boruto, it is between Boruto Uzumaki and Sarada Uchiha.
Another similarity is a heartwarming scene where a mother hugs her son. In Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, this scene is between Rio Morales and Miles Morales, while in Boruto, it is between Hinata Uzumaki and Boruto Uzumaki.
Boruto fans believe that these similarities are evidence that the Spider-Man movie was inspired by Boruto. And that could be the case, however. Still, it’s also likely that as the world shrinks and cultures become more aware of each other, stories may sound similar, and scenes of family and loved ones become more relatable. Two protagonists that have origins on opposite sides of the globe have the same set of eyes watching them.
