The Reign of God: A Gospel Story (Volume 1) Review

After years of fierce struggle, the Roman army has reconquered the Holy Land from radical Judean insurgents. Only Jerusalem with its massive temple is the last bulwark resisting the Romans. The young priest Yosef has sided with the Empire and is desperately trying to negotiate an end to the bloodshed.

There, a stranger appears, Shimon, an old man from Galilee. He claims to be a disciple of Yeshua, the crucified magician who some believe was the Messiah captivated as Shimon tells the story of his youth. 40 years earlier the Jordan River where Yeshua and a desert hermit called “Immerser message of liberation. A message that was about to change the world-c powerful elites of the Holy Land… Does this story hold a key to saving Jerusalem from doom?

A gripping drama about the time and life of Jesus.

The above Summarizes volume 1 of the reign of God that I couldn’t do justice to. When I first got the book I wasn’t sure what to expect. The vast majority of the content I read comes from American authors, specifically as it relates to Christianity. But I must say this was a refreshing take on the gospel story of Jesus. With anything depicting Jesus there is a certain Unwritten formula but I’ve become accustomed to.  The Story begins long after Jesus instead of shortly before or doing his ministry. we’re at the tail end of a war between Rome and Jerusalem. we get to see other perspectives and very few of it Christian.

It’s a story that I know but don’t, the book purposely displays the name in Moore historical fashion, as presented in the summary above. I had to relearn who these characters are and that itself was a treat.  If I had to pick a con  of this book it would be the Viewpoint of Jesus. he’s not displayed in the typical fashion which left me wondering where this will lead in volumes down the line. There is some violence, in the beginning pages numerous men are shown crucified. with war violence soon after.

What I liked about this book was its display of Jesus. I know I’m in a way contradicting myself but let me explain, this is the most human Virgin of Jesus that I’ve come across. Jesus has personality and humor and yet they’re still the special element to helm that our main protagonist doesn’t know how to handle. I enjoyed the history behind the story, the way the characters speak  is unique and seems quite genuine. there’s even humor at times, I recall a sea between John the Baptist at one of Harold’s soldiers that honestly made me laugh out loud. if you’re looking for something familiar yep unique Look No Further dim the reign of God.

“AWAY FROM THIS MAN!

BUT NOT BECAUSE OF HIS WORDS…

IT WAS HIS EYES.

THE GAZE.

IT PIERCED INTO ME LIKE A STING.

It FELT AS IF HE KNEW MORE ABOUT ME THAN MYSELF”
